Autograph letter signed from Benjamin Waterhouse, Boston, to Christopher Champlin [manuscript], 1783 October 21.

Waterhouse writes that he took Champlin's advice and "said as much to him as decency & my conscience would admit, something which obtained the commendation of the hearers in general." He goes on to describe a meeting with Dr. Cooper and Mr. Bowdoin and a dinner with "some of the Congress, of the council, of the Senate, the Speaker of the House, the President of the College, the French Consul with several other distinguished people." With a typed transcription of the letter, a portrait of Waterhouse, and a typed letter signed from Henry H. Sprague to Josiah H. Benton dated January 29, 1912 regarding notes Sprague made on Waterhouse, which also are included here (3 p.).
